Welcome to my crazy globe-trotting, food-focused life. I’m the author of two culinary memoirs and the founder of Black Sesame Kitchen, a cooking school in Beijing. I’m the mother of two kinda young kids. I’ve lived and cooked on three continents but my heart remains loyal to Chinese cuisine.
I cook wherever I happen to be, which right now is …. Beijing! I began this blog in spring 2020 when my family and I weren’t able to return to our home in China and were temporarily sheltering in Washington D.C. Recently, we made the trans-Pacific leap back to China, and we look forward to resuming our “normal” lives …
In these pages, you’ll find stories and recipes that reflect what I’m cooking at the moment — Chinese, Asian, and fusion dishes, and you’ll also detect the themes of noodles and dough. You can browse my books, virtually visit Black Sesame Kitchen, and/or sign up for one of my online cooking classes.
I usually post two recipes during the week and a story on Fridays. If you’d like an occasional reminder sent to your inbox, you can sign up for my newsletter below. My hope is to give you a little inspiration, in and out of the kitchen, and to help everyone feel a little more connected these days. Thank you for reading!
